Tiriti o Waitangi - Treaty of Waitangi

The Treaty of Waitangi is an agreement made in 1840 between representatives of the British Crown and more than 500 Māori chiefs. It resulted in the declaration of British sovereignty over New Zealand by Lieutenant Governor William Hobson in May 1840. This seven part docudrama "what really happened" follows an imaginary news reporter who travels back in time to the lead up to the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Below is a documentary [1 hour] about Wai 262, the Tiriti o Waitangi claim about mātauranga Māori and the unique Māori way of viewing the world, encompassing both traditional knowledge and culture.

  • Ara and  Tokona ki te Raki a Ngāi Tahu led collaborative established to increase Māori participation, success and progression in education and employment outcomes (p.10, 12, 13, & 14) 
  • Boosting Māori Achievement (p.39-46).
