Whakapapa - Genealogy

Whakapapa is family history or genealogy.  It is an integral part of the Māori world, being  identification by whanau (family), hapu (sub tribe) and iwi (tribe). More broadly identification can also be by rangatira (chief), waka (canoe), maunga (mountain), awa (river), moana (sea), and marae.
